Espresso Enthusiast Class

This course is Intelligentsia's basic barista training course for the public. In your 3-hour session, Intelligentsia's Training Team will instruct you on espresso preparation, milk steaming, drink recipes, and latte art. We limit the class size in order to emphasize a hands-on approach for all students where we can develop palates by tasting many espressos and espresso-based drinks. This class is great for new or prospective retailers (regardless of experience) and for home enthusiasts eager to work with professional equipment.

Your class includes an optional tour that begins one hour before the class start time. At the end of the session, each attendee will also receive a pound of Black Cat Classic or Decaf Black Cat Espresso to enjoy at home.

The course is $200 per person. Sign up for the Chicago Barista Training Class.

If the class you would like to attend is full, please feel free to sign up for the waiting list here. You will be contacted if a spot opens up for that class. Arrangements or transfers can also be made if you sign up for a class at a later date and your waiting list request comes through.

Cupping

Come taste some coffee with us! Cupping is the industry standardized way of critically evaluating coffee; it is how we select our green coffee and the most important piece of our Direct Trade buying model. This event will give you the opportunity to learn about tasting terminology, coffee processing, and history while tasting the best offerings in the Intelligentsia line-up. You will be cupping with some of our most experienced staff: Baristas, Roasters, Green Coffee Buyers, and members of our Quality Control team. The cupping takes approximately two hours and you will receive a half pound of coffee to take home. Please try to arrive between 10:45 and 11AM.

Sign up for the Chefs' Cupping, it is $15 for industry professionals. These are held on the second Monday of each month.

Sign up for the Public Cupping, it is $35 per person. These are held on the last Monday of each month.

If you have questions, please send us an email.

Beginners should arrive 10 minutes early to discuss the basics.
