Askinosie Chocolate is a family-owned, small batch, bean-to-bar chocolate maker in Springfield, Missouri that sources cocoa beans directly from farmers, a buying model not unlike the Direct Trade purchasing model pioneered by Intelligentsia.
Askinosie works with farmers in Ecuador, Honduras, the Philippines and Tanzania and is passionate about transparency, traceability, and quality.
The company sold its first chocolate bar in 2007, and was one of a few bean-to-bar chocolate makers. Now, the specialty chocolate industry is booming as many small batch makers emerge. Askinosie is grateful to be a part of this increased focus on quality and ethical chocolate making and continues their commitment to direct sourcing and profit sharing, as they bring some of the best small batch (and award winning!) chocolate to customers.
Shawn Askinosie is the founder and CEO of Askinosie Chocolate, his daughter Lawren is the Director of Sales & Marketing, and his son in law, Kyle, is the head Chocolate Maker. While they only have 13 full-time employees, Askinosie distributes all over the world.
