BROADWAY - BROADWAY BARISTA OF THE MONTH

Eric Skalac is the Broadway Barista of the Month for November/December 2007.  Eric is the evening shift manager at Broadway and has been a Barista for almost one year.

Eric’s been drinking Intelligentsia since college and upon moving to Chicago felt that it would be the right company to work for.  His favorite drink to make is the basic latte.  “A simple whole milk latte, preferably in a wide-mouthed bowl, usually gets the most appreciative response from customers.

In his spare time, Eric is completely devoted to fiction, both reading and writing.  Eric appreciates the connections that come from his work as a Barista.  “The thing about being a Barista, there’s a certain set of customers that integrate a coffee shop into their routine.  Whether they come just for a drink, or they come to study or socialize, you start to be part of their routine as well.  You see someone enough, and you can’t help but chat; about politics and the weather, but also about the personal, about the exceptional.  You hear a lot of stories.”
