Twenty-two. That’s more than a few times to deliver on something. We have gone from wide-eyed upstart to seasoned old salt. We lit a match in the mid-nineties and started a fire. It’s a fire that now burns brighter than ever in the form of delicious, thoughtful Direct Trade coffee that rewards producers who share our commitment to quality, puts their coffee into the hands of skilled roasters, and honors the professional baristas who apply their craft each day at our Coffeebars to pour the result of all that work into your cup. And none of it would be possible without you, our wonderful and supportive customers who, more than 20 years ago, helped a fledgling coffee company find its wings and fly. We cannot thank you enough for supporting us in times of heaviness and helping us to celebrate the times of lightness.
So, 22 of what? Well, this is the 22nd edition of our Celebration Blend. Each year as autumn comes to a close with winter right behind, we offer a blend of the best single-origin coffees of the season. These are coffees that are good enough to stand alone as part of our single-origin lineup, and even better when blended with intentionality by the hardworking team in our cupping lab. And if we must say so ourselves, this year’s Celebration Blend is a doozy, equal parts Tikur Anbessa Ethiopia, Kunga Maitu Kenya and Tres Santos Colombia. The result is reminiscent of a cup of hot cider - fresh crisp apple, along with red grapefruit, and sweet kiwi.
This is a blend to Celebrate our shared past and how much we have to look forward to together. This was quite a year at Intelligentsia, and 2017 holds even more promise, as we will spread our wings further and land with Coffeebars in new cities scattered about the country. So let us gather together around the fire we started together long ago, raise our favorite cups and wish hard for the very best that is to come.
